Returnee here. New-Generation FO4 and F4SE-required mods? Also, how to check if Dialogue Camera isn't off? (2024)

It's been a while since I played (Sim Settlements 1 even), so I'm excited to try the Settlements storyline for myself

I'm currently downloading the Sim Settlements 2 chapters in a bundle, as well as all the other necessary stuff, but I was wondering how Baka ScrapHeap and Faster Workshop (the lag fix thing) worked relative to the new-generation version of Fallout 4, as I'm a bit lost.

I grabbed the latest version of F4SE and attached it in the right places for the new install, and I'm wondering if I need to do anything else? I don't see Scrapheap and Faster Workshop in the load order thingy, so I imagine they're working in the background and don't need to be load-ordered?

Also, the only other main modification I wanted to add was the Full Dialogue Interface thing so I can read in advance what I'm saying, but it says under known issues to not turn off the Dialogue Camera with Full Dialogue Interface as it "can break several of Sim Settlements 2's quests and prevent progression. As long as you do not disable the Dialogue Camera, the mod appears to work fine with Sim Settlements 2."

How do I ensure I don't break the dialogue camera?

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Hey, if you're using a lot of F4SE-reliant mods I'd suggest to look into downgrading the game (I used this) and getting BASS for the mods that use the new archive format (not something I was interested in but if you want the NG CC stuff or some other NG mods). Otherwise not all of them are updated yet (some may never update), and there will be more game updates so all the mods will hasve to accomodate them.
Not entirely sure about FDI, don't think it updated for NG. XDI generally works for SS2 with dialogue camera always ON, haven't noticed any issues lately at least.
Faster Workshop isn't updated for NG either, though Buffout has that functionality built in (and it's also not updated...)
Installation depends on your mod manager I guess, I use Mod Organiser 2 and resorted to installing just about everything through it too so they show up in the modlist (launching the game through the F4SE launcher shortcut in MO2). I'm not the biggest expert on load orders though so anyone can correct me on that.

It likely doesn't require an update. IIRC, it doesn't use F4SE.

Dialog Camera is a vanilla setting. I can't remember if its under display or gameplay. IIRC, its on by default.

Hi @Antoine Soverie I'm only using F4SE for those utility thingies that are supposed to make the game run on the new-gen?

Baka ScrapHeap and Faster Workshop are basically it.

Aside from utilities and performance fixes, the only mods I'm using are Sim Settlements and some quality of life mods specifically for Easier Hacking, FDI to read my responses, Faster Terminal Displays, Longer power Lines 3x, and then Sim Settlements 2 Extended (I download the chapters and Extended individually because the primary complete file broke at the 97% mark and wouldn't install).

Do I need to downgrade?

Huh, you're right. That didn't once cross my mind, how'd they pull it off without F4SE?
(I wouldn't understand the answer to that anyway)

All things considered, maybe not.. If you ask me, the update brought a lot of bugs and not a lot of good content. But should be playable. Don't have any experience with FDI but I think it'd work. Still, I'd guess Faster Workshop would need to be updated to be used with new F4SE, but if you don't have a ton of settlement object mods you may not need it.
